New Standards on Residential HVAC: What do they mean for you?

Whether you live in Missouri or Kansas, you will be affected by new energy conservation rules regarding your residential HVAC system. As we are in the “Northern Region,” the proposed standards will affect us beginning in May of next year. These new rules are designed to set new and higher minimal standards for HVAC appliances, making them more energy efficient.

While these rules are for new installations of HVAC systems, those will older systems will not be facing a huge upgrading cost immediately. As long as an 80% efficient system is not deemed as unfit or leaking carbon monoxide, it can be fixed with new parts; however if the system is unfit, this will qualify as a new installation and will be required to be replaced.
